Justice Richard C. Bosson

Justice Richard C. Bosson became a member of the New Mexico Supreme Court in December 2002. Before that date, he served as judge on the New Mexico Court of Appeals starting in 1994, including two years as Chief Judge during 2001-02. Justice Bosson graduated in 1966 from Wesleyan University and received his Juris Doctor in 1969 from Georgetown University Law Center. He has been an active member of the New Mexico Bar since 1970. In 1998 Justice Bosson received a Masters Degree in Judicial Process from the University of Virginia School of Law. Justice Bosson was a member of the Legal Aid Society of Albuquerque and a founding member of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund in Albuquerque from 1970-74. In 1975 he spent a year in Colombia, South America as a recipient of a Latin American Teaching Fellowship, sponsored by the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, associated with the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota. Thereafter, Justice Bosson was with the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office in the Consumer Protection Division and as Director of the Civil Division from 1976-78. Entering private law practice in Santa Fe, Justice Bosson was a Senior Partner of Bosson & Canepa, P.A. in Santa Fe from 1981-94. During his years as a private attorney, Justice Bosson served as Bond Counsel for the State of New Mexico and the City of Santa Fe; New Mexico Commissioner of Banking; and a member of the New Mexico Constitution Revision Commission in 1994-95. He also served many years as a member of the Board of Trustees for the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association. He is currently a certified high school soccer referee in New Mexico. Justice Bosson has been married to his wife, Gloria, since 1971 and they have two children, Christopher and Monica.
